"According to the Great Perfection teachings of the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism, all of Buddhism is classified into two divisions: sutra and tantra . Sutra teachings are further divided into three vehicles: the shravakas, pratyekabuddhas, and mahayanists. 

Tantric teachings are divided into six tantras: the three outer tantras of Kriyayoga, Charyayoga, and Yoga tantra and the three inner tantras of Mahayoga, Anuyoga, and Atiyoga. These three vehicles and six tantras constitute the nine yanas.
